Poker: Some Policies on Money

Any professional poker player forms policies with regard to money when playing. These policies serve as guidelines to base strategies on, and have been worked out to result in short and long term advantages. With proper money polices, the player makes few mistakes and commits good decisions.

Poker is all about money. We all know that winning money is the holiest of grails in all poker games, which is why books and websites have been sprouting all over to teach you how to win money in the game.

The commonest factor in money policy is attitude, since this is the most important and the most crucial policy in any game. The policy is simple: if you treat every dollar as irreplaceable segments of your life (e.g. every dollar is hard-earned), then you start to see money differently. You respect it because you respect yourself.

Another policy you can keep track of is stimulating a poor attitude of your opponent's. With poor attitudes, you increase your edge odds of the game. How do you induce your opponents to have poor attitudes? You can stimulate poor money attitudes as a ploy by forwarding ideas such as: Winning is only a matter of getting good cards, luck is the key to a winning streak, a winning streak passes by hot or cold, and/or the amount of betting should depend on your winning or losing streaks.

Another way to stimulate poor attitude is to encourage using poker chips instead of money so your opponents decrease their sense of value towards money. Poker chips also induce players to be loose, bet faster, and quicken the game pace resulting in a decrease of their sense of what's at stake.

Increasing your money in the game has its advantages, leading to another money policy. More cash in the game means allowing stakes and betting paces to be more rapid. It also decreases your opponents respect for money. An effective way to enlarge money at stake in the game is to increase the cash needed in the game itself, at the same time, limiting credit use. Let's reveal a ploy most pros use to pull this stunt off. Suppose you have an opponent in a poker game who's losing heavily. He tries to borrow money from you and your opponents to stay in the game. You refuse and ask him to write you a check for his own protection. He becomes hesitant. And then you remind him that to win money, you've got to have money. He then agrees to write a check, feels insulted, and promises that he would bring more money to next week's game.

So, the following week, he brings a truckload. To brag about his cash and to get some form of vindication, he tries to overpower every player. What do you know; your opponent has increased the stakes and loses to you. That's because he's playing recklessly and loses his respect for money. Now you're even more a winner than at last week's game.
